With Sara gone to her parents for the week, I have had "free" time on my hands. So I have started working on the bikes. Now 50cc bikes seem so easy to fix until you actuality have to fix them. Last night I finally got the old 1984 Honda z50 running after 3 month of on and off messing around with it. It happened by accident really, I was cleaning my ktm some after the mud race and thought I should kick that Honda over a few times and if it doesn't run I am putting it outside. I sprayed a shot of starting fluid(the gloves were off) and it ran for a second. I was so excited my hands were almost shaky as I scrambled to put the gas tank and seat on and tighten the bolts.
It was time for a test drive, because it was late evening I just rode for a few minutes. The bike wanted to die a few times and so I kept it pinned as much as I could. Back in the garage I ran it for a little more and it was smoking pretty good out the exhaust because it needs rings I think. When I finally thought I should shut it off for the night before my neighbors kill me, I could hear the smoke alarms going off in the house, I had left the door opened and the smoke was thick. After opening all the doors for a while it finally seemed livable in here, but as I type this I can still smell the exhaust fumes, I don't mind it (I think I like it) but Sara probably will feel different about it.
Tonight I am going to work on Trey's Yamaha pw50 and fix the kill switch. I will keep the door shut this time because his is a two stroke and it smokes even more. We plan on riding them at my brothers house Saturday and I look forward to chasing them on the Honda. I am really looking forward to seeing the kids ride together as it was always fun for me as a kid to ride with my brother around the hay field.
50cc bikes are fun and I am glad to share my favorite hobby with my family.
